Barbican Panto fundraising for Snappy
Throughout 2017, the Barbican Panto team will be partnering with York based children’s charity ‘Snappy’ to help raise funds, and raise awareness of the amazing work they do.
The star studded cast of the Barbican’s pantomime, Robin Hood And The Babes In The Wood, will be supporting Snappy – a voluntary organisation established in York in 1985 to provide play and activities for children, young people and young adults with disability.
Panto dame and TV actor Michael Starke visited York to meet some of the young people who have already flourished as a result of Snappy’s programme of work.
Each year, Snappy offers a safe, fun and loving environment to over 250 children and their families through school holiday play schemes, as well as in the evenings and at weekends.
Without Snappy, the children and young people who benefit from their work would have little or no access to recreational opportunities. Children and young people learn best through play and leisure, and indeed, each other, and Snappy encourages learning as a natural process.
The cast of Robin Hood, along with the York Barbican team, aim to raise enough money to help fund Snappy’s Saturday play scheme for a year. In addition to this, the production team will be working directly with some of Snappy’s children, running workshops and visits to help prepare them for a trip to the theatre to see the show with their families – which for some of the children will be a huge achievement in itself.
Anne Stamp, of Snappy, said “We are proud and delighted to be partnering with the Barbican Panto this year. Their support will be vital to allow our very special projects to continue, and the children will be so excited to meet some of the cast and visit the theatre”.
Mark Scott, General Manager at the Barbican, said “Working with Snappy will be incredibly rewarding for the whole team, and forms a key part of the panto outreach work the Barbican will be doing with schools and young people throughout the year”.
