We are a registered charity, working with children, young people and young adults with wide ranging disabilities, from learning difficulties to profound physical disabilities. We work to develop confidence, independence, and social skills but mostly, to give our children the opportunity to enjoy new experiences, have fun and make friends.
We are very proud of our reputation across the York area and of the work that our incredible team do to ensure every child that comes to SNAPPY feels safe, valued and happy.
SNAPPY was established in 1985. There were four special needs schools in York at this time, and the children attending those schools often had a tough time during the holidays. They had little contact with their friends, and their parents had an intense period of care. Four parents got together with one of the school’s head teacher and arranged to bring some of the children into school for a few days over the summer holidays to enjoy some play activities. SNAPPY was born!
We have grown a lot in 30 years and now work with almost 300 children, young people and young adults in the York area!
